Platform overview
What the platform is, how tenancy works, and how the pieces fit together.
What the platform is
A membership platform for professional associations and member organizations. One installation runs many organizations, each with its own members, branding, website, fees and rules.
It covers the whole membership relationship: applications and approval, dues and renewals, events and training, governance meetings, certificates, internal community, and the public website.
Organizations and tenancy
The organization is the unit of tenancy. Members, applications, payments, content and permissions all belong to exactly one. Requests are resolved to an organization by domain, so each organization reaches the platform on its own address and sees only its own data.
Accounts are per organization. The same person with the same email address holds separate accounts at two organizations, with separate passwords and separate profiles.
The four audiences
- Members — the portal.
- Guests — non-members registering for public conferences and training, reached through private links rather than accounts.
- Administrators — the admin area for their own organization.
- Platform operators — the people running the platform, through backend consoles rather than the web application.
The four surfaces
- Public site — the organization’s website, built in the CMS.
- Member portal — signed-in member screens.
- Admin area — organization administration.
- Backend consoles — platform administration and the Engage operations console.
The modules at a glance
- Membership — accounts, applications, subscriptions, membership structure. Individuals apply through the onboarding wizard; companies and institutions apply through the corporate track and hold seats rather than a single membership.
- Payments — carts, gateways, refunds, reminders.
- Conferences and training — events, tickets, courses, cohorts, coursework.
- Governance — general meetings, attendance, proxies, resolutions, minutes.
- Public website — the CMS.
- Communications — notifications, messaging, member wall, Engage.
- Documents — certificates and letters.
- Access control — roles, permissions, policies, audit.
