Notifications

What the platform tells you about, and how to choose which channels reach you.

What you get notified about

Notifications come from the things that affect you directly:

  • Your application — submitted, under review, approved, rejected, or returned with notes.
  • Billing — dues falling due, renewal reminders, payment confirmations, failed payments.
  • Events and training — registration confirmations, reminders before a session, materials becoming available.
  • Meetings — notices, reminders, minutes published.
  • Messages — when an administrator writes to you.

Everything lands in Notifications (opens in a new tab), whichever other channels you have on. The bell in the header shows the unread count.

The channels

  • In-app — the notifications page and the header bell. Always on; this is the record.
  • Email — sent from NIWE, in its branding.
  • SMS — only if NIWE has SMS configured, and usually reserved for time-critical messages.
  • WhatsApp — where NIWE uses it, both for verifying your number and for reaching you afterwards.
  • Browser push — desktop or mobile notifications from your browser, if you allow them.

Important

SMS and WhatsApp only reach a verified number. Verification is a step in the application wizard, and you can do it later from /settings/notifications (opens in a new tab). An unverified number is the usual reason a member has SMS switched on and still receives nothing.

Which of these you are offered depends on NIWE: an organization with neither SMS nor WhatsApp configured never shows the phone options at all.

Choosing your channels

Settings → Notifications lets you set, per kind of notification, which channels reach you. Turning email off for event reminders does not turn it off for payment confirmations.

Important

Some notifications cannot be switched off. Anything about your membership status or your money will always reach you at least in-app, because missing it has consequences.

Browser push notifications

Enabling push asks your browser for permission. Permission is granted per browser on per device, so enabling it on your laptop does not enable it on your phone.

If you blocked the prompt once, the platform cannot ask again — you have to clear the block in your browser’s site settings first.
