5th NIWE INTERNATIONAL WATER CONFERENCE

BACKGROUND

The Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. In line with its mandate on continuous professional development, the Institution holds International. Water Conference annually on topical issues in the water sub-sector with a view to bring to front burner existing issues, problems, challenges and possible solutions or recommendations on the way forward.

 

It is widely acknowledged that inadequate data and modelling of systems is hampering effective Integrated Water Resources Management (WRM) in Sub Saharan Africa especially in Nigeria, The 2022 conference is specifically tailored to address this problem and also create synergy among the water sector professionals and the academia.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

The International conference provides opportunities for exchange of knowledge and information on best practices in the water sub-sector and sustainable development. These will be achieved as outlined in the following objectives:

• Provide a forum to facilitate knowledge exchange, based on real experiences in the Execution of Water Projects.
• Identify possible areas of policy intervention to enhance development in the water sub-sector. 
• Provide networking among Water Professionals in the Industry and academia.
• Set new directions for research, knowledge and capacity building needs related to Water Resources

‘The central theme of this year's Conference, "Applications of Data and Technologies for 

Effective Integrated Water Resources Management” is not only timely, but seeks to synchronize water availability, quality utilization, management, sectoral challenges and remedies with development.
